The Debt of Eternal Life, the Debt of Life, the Debt of Love, and the Debt of Karma

Since the time of our birth, we should have possessed eternal love centering on God. When we were born through our parents, we should have already represented the love of God. Moreover, centering on us as a couple, we should have represented the love of parents. We should have also built a relationship of love with all things.

Because we could not become such people, men owe a debt of eternal life to God, and we owe the debt of life to our parents. We owe the debt of love to couples, and we owe the debt of karma to the creation.

After God created the universe and all things, the reason He elevated Adam and Eve to be the center of all things was to give eternal responsibility to men. Consequently, we bear the responsibility to give eternal love. In other words, because Adam and Eve did not follow the will of God and were dragged into the bosom of Satan, the debt for the life centering on the eternal love of God remains unpaid in each of us today.

Moreover, after we have been born through our parents, we owe a debt to them because they have loved and taken care of us in their lives. We also owe a debt for the love of God, which must be paid back by living the life of a couple. To all things, we owe a debt for the love that nature has given to us. When you reflect on this, you must understand that we today owe a debt to God for eternal love, to our parents for life, to our couples for the love centering on life, and to all things we owe the debt of the relationship of love which we have incurred in our daily life.

As the center of the creation, you must be able to display dignity. You must realize that men owe eternal debt to God, the debt of their lives to their parents, the debt of love to couples, and the debt of life to the creation. The creation demands that men pay back all of this debt.

Noah Traveled the Path of Adventure

Let us now reflect back on our ancestors of the past. When we look at the life of Noah first, we will find that it was not a smooth and even life. How do you think Noah must have felt when he received the commandment, “I will judge the world with water 120 years from now, so build an ark on the top of Mount Ararat”? It was not a feat that took twelve days, nor twelve years. It took 120 years. The commandment to build an ark on top of Mount Ararat was completely out of step with the reality of that time.

When you look at the actual situation of Noah, who carried out that kind of commandment, he might be considered a truly insane person, one who was fully out of touch with his time. Noah, who received such enormous directives from God, made a firm determination within himself. He persevered not for one day, but for a period of 120 years, wishing for that one day to come. You must understand that Noah was truly the adventurous champion, unprecedented in the 1,600 years of prior history. He was raised before Heaven representing that history.

Noah, who maintained absolute faith in the commandment as the will of the covenant, did not pay much attention to all those conditions. Once he decided, he did not care whether God intervened or whether the people of the world cursed at him. Since he had already embarked on the path for the sake of the will, putting his life on the line and having forsaken it, none of these matters posed any problem. Thus, he silently traveled through the course of ordeals that continued for such a long period of 120 years.

Noah must have faced criticisms in his family. Society must have greatly reproached him. Yet nobody could stop the footsteps of Noah, who began his journey to single-mindedly pioneer the heavenly path that humankind does not understand and has not traveled before, the path that no one in the course of sixteen hundred years had walked before. You must keep in mind that Noah was an adventurous person who could cast aside all opposition, even if the environment of society of that time obstructed him and all the people of the world pushed him back.

Noah made headway with dogged determination, regardless of what kinds of tests and tribulations he faced. After 120 years passed, he could erect the one restored family that Adam’s family had lost. You must understand such a historical background.

The standard of love that Jesus established

What did Jesus do to realize the value of such a cosmic life? He elevated love. In other words, he propagated new words of the gospel to complete the value of cosmic life in heaven and earth. The central point of that gospel was love.

What would be the most important thing for an individual to be able to connect his own private life to the standard of eternal value? As Jesus said, he must have such love that he can sacrifice his life for the sake of others. In fact, Jesus established the standard of value of life by loving others more than himself.

Similarly, Jesus, who appeared representing the value of heavenly life, taught humankind to possess such love that they can sacrifice their lives for the sake of others’ salvation. You must understand clearly that the man who appeared with such a loving heart, who loved his colleagues more than himself, who loved the world more than he loved his colleagues, and who loved God and the thousands upon thousands of saints more than he loved the world was Jesus Christ.

Jesus did not live with an individualistic ideology to find the value of his own individual life or with individualistic love. Even when he loved a friend, his love transcended the relationship of loving friendship. Jesus had the perspective that he loved the friend representing the world. He also loved that friend with the heart that represented God.

Likewise, Jesus did not practice love on a one-to-one basis. When Jesus loved a certain individual, it was with God’s love, with cosmic love, and then with individual love. You must be able to experience this. Only when you do so can you rightly comprehend the value of Jesus’ life.

Up to what level did Jesus raise the standard of his own life? He envisioned himself existing for the sake of the world. Even when he loved a friend of his, forsaking himself, he kept the perspective that he loved him for the sake of the world. This was Jesus’ standard.

Jesus could establish the standard of love of worldwide salvation on the cross because he had the heart of love and sacrifice with which he could die for the sake of an individual and for the whole simultaneously. You must know that Jesus was the hero of love, life and character. That was not all. Jesus then prayed toward Heaven, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as You will.” (Matthew 26:39) Because Jesus wished to live only according to the will of the Father, he could demonstrate God’s love to humankind beyond the valley of death. Similarly, we must know that the entire course of Jesus’ life was filled with such remarkable love.

Next, what did Jesus Christ, who came with the mission to restore the cosmic life, raise to find the value of life? That, too, was love. This love was not meant for individual human beings but for the world, God and the eternal world — the spiritual beings who are in the spirit world.

In order for us, in our daily lives, to realize the value of the life of Jesus, who represented God’s love, we who must take responsibility for the restoration of the whole life must not deal with whichever matter we face with transient emotions. We must deal with all things with the resolution and determination that we will model ourselves after Jesus’ character, who represented the whole on the cosmic level. Only after we pass through such a day-to-day life can we complete the worldwide life and make a connection with eternal life.

In other words, if your day-to-day lives have a transient value that affects only you, you cannot make a connection with eternity. That is the reason you must lead a life in which you can make a connection with God’s eternal love. Only when you do that will the eternal God be with you. Because Jesus lived making daily connections with God throughout his life, though Jesus is dead, the Will of God, who wished it to be completed by Jesus, has been continuously carried on toward its completion.

You are to find love…

You are amazing
You are gifted
You are special
You are unique

You are the child of God
You are a star in the sky
You are the Sun in the dark
You are an island in the ocean

Do not be afraid of the changes
Do not be discouraged when you are hurt
Do not ever feel lonely
Do not ever let resentment settle in your heart

Because you are worthy
Because you are enough
Because you are to be loved
Because you are to find love

The origin of the Heavenly Kingdom is the family

“The origin of the Heavenly Kingdom is the family. You have to turn the family the other way round, based on true love. Even in the family, the second generation has to get into action. Young people are being destroyed by the day. They have been cornered in a hotbed of drugs. Shot by the devil’s arrows, they indulge themselves with abandon in premarital sex. Gathering from every village, young people will band together to assist the police in the elimination of evil gangs in the community. If scoundrels appear in the village, the time has come for the second generation to shoulder the responsibility to drive them away and to educate the villagers, together with their parents. Your family now becomes one of hope. Those preparing to meet the coming of an ideological world where the foundation of peace can be expanded from your own family to the world are sagacious citizens who can receive abundant blessings in the future.” – Reverend Sun Myung Moon

The hope for the world is rooted in the family and tribe

“Our family has to be located in the root holy ground. As it is situated at the world’s central position as well as the root holy ground, we can shout, “The owner of the root holy ground is my family! The owner of the original holy ground and the holy ground of victory is also my family!”

This is possible owing to God and our succeeding to the vertical and horizontal victorious foundation restored through True Parents’ indemnity and toil. Based on all relationships and the family education for the tribe, nation and world, the time to start organizing the world’s tribes and the time of hope for the world has come at last!” – Reverend Sun Myung Moon

The family is the most significant school of love…

“The family is the most significant school of love. Through education in love and heart that parents can give their children within the sphere of the family, their hearts grow in depth and breadth. The family is the foundation stone for building the character of our children, and the school for teaching them love and virtue. Receiving education on the intellectual, physical and technical aspects on the foundation of emotional and normative education is the heavenly way.” – Reverend Sun Myung Moon

The family is the basic unit in the ideal world

“What is the system of an ideal world? Its basic unit is the family. The family is the base of heavenly kingdom, and the cornerstone for building the Heavenly Kingdom. No matter how large the population of citizens is, a person who confronts his nation with a love that extends beyond the family can travel freely in the Heavenly Kingdom.

You must have a mind like such a person, to receive education at home as in the textbook. The grandparents, parents, couple and children live in the family. If these are extended to the world, there will be people in the same age groups as the grandparents, parents, couple and children. Hence, a person who has experienced love in his family, as in the textbook, faces no hindrances anywhere in the world. He is qualified since he has lived according to the book. Such a man has no need to worry about food or lodging in any house. Such a time will come if only this kind of education is carried out.

I seem to be speaking of the remotest possibility. Try it, and see whether I am just telling you a fairy tale. I am teaching you to adapt yourselves to that world. The family is therefore the elementary textbook. If you live as taught in the family, there won’t be international borders or any other types of obstacles blocking you. With that heart, even closed doors or blocked walls will heartily welcome you with outstretched arms by opening themselves up. Grassland will respond to you in the same way. I sound crazy, don’t I? It is the same for God.

If He tries to teach His children, saying, “Since the ideal of love is so great, you must love everyone and everything more than your own lives!” They will reply, “How about you, God?” Then God must be able to say, “You have to do that, just as I have.” The reason is that He cannot teach us something that He cannot fulfill Himself. When He says, “I myself have endeavored to be absolutely obedient to love, so your couple must be submissive to love even at the cost of your lives, and walk a path of helping and living for others!” If they answer in the positive, contradictory logic on the front, back, left, right, up and down will be utterly resolved. Thus, God is also unconditionally submissive to love.

The restoration of the elder son’s right, the parents’ right, and kingship is first. After having restored the elder son’s right, you become the citizen of a new nation. Centering on the family, you have to experience, with your heart, the educational content of the four great textbooks. Next, based on the system of the ideal world, if a person applies the living environment of the family to the nation, the living environment of the nation to the world, the living environment of the world to the cosmos, and the living environment of the cosmos to God, nothing will ever block him. He will receive a red-carpet reception in the physical and spiritual worlds.” – Reverend Sun Myung Moon

The family is the place for training our hearts…

“The family is the place for training our hearts. Therefore, we have to love and live together with our brothers and sisters in schools and in the nation. Education from parents is education for the school, society and nation. Parents have to bequeath all emotional aspects to their children and successors. They have to lay the emotional foundation for their offspring by demonstrating how they should live in the family, in the society, and for the nation, just as how the parents have been living.” – Reverend Sun Myung Moon
